Cool Vid: Engine Powered Paragliding in the French Alps (or… Today We Learn About Paramotoring)
The good people at Wimp.com have found yet another cool flying-related video. The footage is of motorized paragliders (pardón: paramotors) racing in the French Alps. It’s neat, but I”m surprised by a few things: 1) a video like this is produced by someone other than RedBull. 2) RedBull isn’t involved. 3) RedBull didn’t do it. The vid:
The footage comes from a French company called Parabatix. They are trying to create a new sport called ‘Sky Racing’ with their brand of paramotors (here’s a link to their info on the event: http://www.parabatix.com/Parabatix/About.html).
Also surprising: if you go their ‘Sky Racers’ section, they list their team pilots, and they have more than one! They even had a few to choose from apparently:
The Parabatix sky racers are made up of the world’s most talented paramotor pilots!
These pilots were carefully selected from around the world to compete in the Parabatix world series.
Today We Learned
TWL (it’s flattery reddit), here’s what we learned via this video:
- Paramotoring is s ‘thing’.
- There’s a company that sponsors it.
- The company is not RedBull.
I think we also learned that it’s pretty neat. We’ll mark it on the radar.
(Hattip to Aaron. Also this is embedded from Parabatix because Wimp didn’t give embed code on this one. So we’re nice even linking them.)
